Search Engine Awards
2003
by

Dec. 2002

Pandecta
Magazine occasionally gives awards to search engines, directories and
search engine resource sites that rise above the noise. It's
a short list that almost never grows -
and we like it that way. These sites really do deserve their awards:

Best
Search Engine:

Google
www.google.com
Google's success can be attributed to their determination to "stick
to their roots". While other search engines are finding ways
to monetize search, Google is finding ways to make search results
even more relevant.

Best
Directory:

DMOZ
(ODP)
dmoz.org
Is this directory the greatest human achievement on the web? We think
so. About 50,000 volunteer editors working tirelessly to create a
comprehensive, neat and high-quality directory of the web. As they
say at DMOZ, "Humans do it better".

Most
Promising Search Engine:

Teoma
www.teoma.com
In a short time Teoma has risen from an interesting newcomer to a
serious contender in the search engine world. All indications are
that they remain committed to challenging Google and they are clearly
the number 1 contender.
