Invisible Text
by
André le Roux
Dec. 2002

You may have read that its possible to increase
your search engine rank by placing keywords as invisible text on your
site (text that is the same color as the background). The site you read
that on has probably not been updated in 4 years. Thats how long
ago this trick stopped working.
People who still advocate the invisible text
trick deserve a good poke in the eye.
There are more recent variations of the invisible
text trick notably one using CSS to hide text which might
still work. I know of one example where someone got a number 1 ranking
on Google using invisible text. Id share it with you, only the
site is no longer listed at Google.
The lesson is that any trick - including
invisible text tricks - will wear out quickly. If you play with variations
of the invisible text trick, it is likely that you will gain some shortlived
success, but your time will be better spent creating a site that offers
true value.
